Home to Home is a United Way sponsored non-profit organization founded in 1996 by the Bath-Brunswick Branch of the American Association of University Women & The Maine Sixth District Court. Its mission is to deter domestic altercations and violence when parents exchange their children for visitations by providing a safe, stress-free, and supervised setting. Our Mid Coast Hospital location replaces less than appropriate exchange places, such as police stations, fast food restaurants, and parking lots that parents may have used in the past.
Home to Home is an excellent organization for which to volunteer if you are limited on time, but have the desire to help children and families. The volunteer is responsible for signing the child into a log book and then for walking with the child from one location in the hospital to another for their visitation. Home to Home does not do childcare; there is always a parent present aside from the walk down the hall with the volunteer. Home to Home does not provide supervised visits; the families are simply there to drop off or pick up their child(ren). A short training session will be provided by the Program Coordinator.
Since its inception in 1996, Home to Home has conducted thousands of exchanges for hundreds of families, sparing them stress and conflict.
The hours that Home to Home provides exchange services are as follows:
Sunday 9-9:30am and 5-6pm
Wednesday 7-7:30pm
Friday 4:30-6:30pm
Saturday 5-6pm
The Program Coordinator starts emailing and asking for volunteers for a given month during the previous month. You can decide how involved you want to be. You can volunteer as many or as few times in the month as your schedule allows.
